According to Aaron Dixon of The Score on Sunday, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox of Yazoo City, Mississippi has announced his retirement from the National Football League at age 33. Cox played 12 seasons with the Eagles (the only NFL team he was ever with) from 2012 to 2023.

For six straight seasons from 2015 to 2020, Cox was selected to the Pro Bowl. He was also on the Eagles team that won Super Bowl LII. On February 4, 2018, the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 41-33 at the United States Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In 188 games, Cox had 519 combined tackles (351 solo tackles and 68 assisted tackles), 88 tackles for a loss, 73 quarterback hits, 16 pass deflections, 16 forced fumbles, 14 fumble recoveries for 56 yards, three touchdowns and 70 sacks.

Cox was the Eagles’s first round pick. 12th overall, in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played his collegiate football at Mississippi State. One of the NFL’s current best defensive tackles, Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs, also played for Mississippi State.

In other Eagles news, Philadelphia is expected to sign running back Saquon Barkley of Bronx, New York to a three-year deal worth $38 million. The news will be made official tomorrow when NFL Free Agency commences. Several running backs are expected to switch teams. Aaron Jones is expected to join the Minnesota Vikings and Josh Jacobs is expected to join the Green Bay Packers. Other running backs projected to switch teams include Tony Pollard (Tennessee), D’Andre Swift (Chicago), Devin Singletary (New York Giants), Antonio Gibson (New England), Austin Ekeler (Washington), and Gus Edwards (Los Angeles Chargers).
