Dustin Johnson wins 2020 Travelers Championship

Dustin Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina has won his first PGA Tour event in 2020. The 2016 U.S. Open champion put together a four-round score of -19 to beat Kevin Streelman of Winfield, Illinois by a stroke at the 2020 Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut, a suburb of Hartford.
Johnson won $1.332 million in winning the event. It was his 21st career victory on the PGA Tour. Johnson shot a one-under-par 69 in round one, six-under-par 64 in round two, nine-under-par 61 in round three, and three-under-par 67 in round four.
Johnson got in the winner’s circle despite the fact that he recorded a six on a par five on the 13th hole in the fourth round, and then a bogey on the 16th hole. Johnson also benefitted by the fact that the third-round leader, Brendon Todd of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had a poor round of golf, as he was +5 on Sunday. Todd went from -18 to -13, and dropped from first to 11th.
With the win, Johnson has now won at least one tournament in his first 13 seasons on the PGA Tour. The only three players who have a longer streak to begin their PGA careers were Arnold Palmer (17 seasons), Jack Nicklaus (17 seasons), and Tiger Woods (14 seasons).
Unfortunately, coronavirus continues to be a significant story on the PGA Tour. This past weekend Denny McCarthy of Takoma Park, Maryland, and Dylan Frittelli of Johannesburg, South Africa tested positive for coronavirus.
The fact that the PGA Tour is going ahead with the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit this weekend is extremely controversial. That is because there have been 70, 223 cases of coronavirus in the state of Michigan, with 6161 deaths. There are also 12, 963 active cases in Michigan. It cannot also be ignored that the LPGA has cancelled the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in Midland, Michigan from July 15-18, and the Meijer LPGA Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan from October 1-4 because of coronavirus.
