Donnarumma’s £45m City signing sealed – but for Ederson hitch
6 months ago - Sportingbase
Ederson leaving Manchester City is all that’s stopping the Premier League giants from securing their foreseeable goalkeeping future, after Gianluigi Donnarumma agreed on personal terms earlier this week.
City is struggling to sell out-of-favour stopper Ederson, though, which is a big problem considering the club needs to ship his wages off the pay docket before they can register Donnarumma for the 2025/26 season.

It’s not quite that they can’t afford the pay double-up, but more that City’s Abu Dhabi owners don’t want to be paying large sums for Ederson, Donnarumma, and newly signed £40 million arrival James Trafford all to be fighting for the number one jersey.
That leaves Ederson as the odd man out – but he’s struggling to find a new home away from the English league.
Galatasaray are very interested, it’s been reported, but don’t want to pay City’s asking price.
The Turkish powerhouse lodged a €10 million transfer bid this week; it was rejected.

Once City and Galatasaray come to an accord – and the belief in footballing circles is they will eventually, once each side plays some hardball – then Ederson will be off to the Turkish league. He’s already agreed to personal terms and will make €8M a season to 2029; a wage that will make him one of the best-paid players in Turkish football history.
And for PSG, who started the whole domino train, it doesn’t much matter either way: Donnarumma is just cash in their pockets, with Luis Enrique already preferring new signing Lucas Chevalier as his shot stopper moving forward.
It’s also worth noting Manchester United is a big loser here; they wanted Donnarumma and were knocked back.
