Dončić drops 47, Mavs snap Rockets’ streak
2 years ago - Sportingbase
A 47-point eruption courtesy of Luka Dončić led the Mavericks to a 125-107 win over the Rockets to snap their 11-game winning streak.
Dončić finished the night with 47 points on 18-of-30 from the field and 9-of-16 from three to go along with 12 rebounds, seven assists and a pair of steals.
The 25-year-old threatened to go even bigger having notched 32 in the first half before sitting at 47 with three-and-a-half to play in the third.
Perhaps fortunately for the Rockets, Dončić took his foot off the pedal as the lead continued to balloon instead settling on his fourth-highest scoring outburst of the season.
Dončić was flanked by Kyrie Irving (24 pts, 7 ast) whilst Dante Exum (13 pts, 5/5 FG) and P.J. Washington (12 pts, 6 reb) also contributed.
Dallas earnt an early double-digit lead which grew to 21 heading into the half and eventually as high as 29 in the third.
They controlled the boards whilst hitting on over half of their field goal and three-point attempts whilst holding the Rockets to just 42.4% from the field and 34.2% from three.
Jabari Smith Jr. (28 pts, 7 reb, 9/14 FG) was a standout for the Rockets whilst Aaron Holiday (16 pts, 5 reb) and Cam Whitmore (13 pts, 5 reb) provided a spark off the bench.
Dillon Brooks (0 pts, 0/8 FG) laid a duck egg for the Rockets whilst Jalen Green (12 pts, 5/15 FG) also suffered through a down night after a white-hot 10-game stretch.
The Rockets travel to Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves on Wednesday whilst the Mavs host the Warriors the same day.
