The Dolphins have locked up tryscoring-machine Jamayne Isaako off the back of the winger’s incredible individual NRL season that saw him top the pointscoring and tryscoring lists in 2023.

Isaako, 27, scored 24 tries and 244 points for the Dolphins in the club’s inaugural season, becoming the first player to achieve the feat since 1990.

The winger was named in the Dally M Team of the Year and was crowned the best player at his club with the Arthur Beetson Medal. With those plaudits in his pocket, he went to the negotiating table and drafted up a new deal with the Redcliffe expansion team that will see him playing in red, gold, and white until at least the end of the 2026 NRL season.

Isaako moved to the Dolphins ahead of the 2023 campaign following a 77-game stint in the Broncos and a short half-season with the Gold Coast Titans.

While the New Zealand star looked to be a breakout player at the Broncos after his debut in 2017, he never really kicked on to the heights many expected and eventually walked out the Red Hill doors in 2022. He clocked up 11 appearances for the Titans and scored three tries, but never really settled on the Gold Coast.

This season, to go with his incredible 244 points, Isaako became a focal point of the Dolphins’ attack and recorded three try assists, 30 line breaks, and 104 tackle breaks. He finished his glamorous campaign with a 3,993 running metres.

“Jamayne could simply have not played any better in 2023,” Dolphins boss Terry Reader said. “To become the first person in 33 years to be the NRL’s top try scorer and point scorer in the same year was outstanding.”

Reader also pointed to how incredible Isaako’s point haul was: “To do that in a team that finished outside of the top eight makes it an even greater achievement—when Mal Meninga did it in 1990, his team won the final. The dedication and drive Jamayne has showed this year to be the best he can has turned him into an elite player in the competition.

“Extending his contract to ensure he stays a Dolphin was an easy decision for the club to make.”
