Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou has season ending knee surgery

The Miami Dolphins suffered a significant blow on Wednesday, as it was reported by the Associated Press that cornerback Kader Kohou of Abidjan, Ivory Coast would be out for the season with a season ending knee injury. Kohou suffered the injury during practice on Saturday.

Kohou is the latest player to suffer a serious injury even before the season starts. Kohou follows Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker David Walker of Stuttgart, Arkansas, and Arizona Cardinals cornerback Starling Thomas V of Birmingham, Alabama, who both tore their anterior cruciate ligaments.

Kohou was to enter his fourth season with the Dolphins, and will not see any playing time at all. This past season he had 45 combined tackles (33 solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles), three tackles for a loss, two interceptions for two touchdowns, eight pass deflections, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. The fumble recovery came in the Dolphins’s first game of the season, a 20-17 Dolphins win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 8. This game was memorable because Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill ran into legal trouble while driving to the game.

If you think it is uncommon for a player to play in the NFL when they are from the Ivory Coast, it is. Kohou is only one of two players all-time to come from the Ivory Coast. The other was running back Amos Zereoue, who played seven NFL seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots from 1999 to 2005. Zereoue had three touchdowns in the 2001 postseason, which led the NFL.
