Day 8 Olympic Preview – Aussies in action today July 31

Even though track and field is now underway, there are still some exciting swimming events featuring Aussies to still occur. The Aussies are also expected to be in the mix for the gold medals in the mixed relay triathlon, and mixed trap team shooting.
Triathlon (Mixed Relay) @ 8:30AM
For the first time in Olympic history, mixed relay triathlon will take place at the Olympic Games. Australia will be represented by Emma Jeffcoat of Collaroy, Matthew Hauser of Maryborough, Ashleigh Gentle of South Brisbane and Jacob Birtwhistle of Tasmania. The teams expected to battle Australia the most are the United States, France, Great Britain and New Zealand.
Shooting–Trap Mixed Team Qualification–starts @ 10AM
Australia has two representatives in the trap mixed team qualification. The 2019 world champions are James Willett of Yarrawonga and Laetisha Scanlan of Melbourne. In the history of Olympic shooting, Australia has won 11 medals. The bronze medal match is on at 2:30 p.m. and the gold medal match is on at 3:05 p.m.

Swimming–Finals start @ 11:30AM
Australia has six chances for medals on Saturday in the pool. The best chance is in the women’s 200 metre backstroke final (Saturday, 11:37 A.M.), where Emily Seebohm of Adelaide is in lane four. Seebohm was the world champion in the women’s 200 metre backstroke at the 2015 and 2017 World Aquatics Championships. Other Aussies competing in swimming finals are Kaylee McKeown of Redcliffe in the women’s 200 metre backstroke, Matthew Temple of Nunawading in the men’s 100 metre butterfly (11:3o A.M.), Kiah Melverton and Ariarne Titmus in the women’s 800 metre freestyle (11:46 A.M.), and the mixed 4×100 metre medley relay final (12:43 P.M.).
