Davis Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia has won the 2024 John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois. This was the first PGA tournament victory for Thompson, and overall it was a sensational performance.

Thompson’s score to par of -28, and total stroke score of 256 was the lowest in the history of the John Deere Classic when the tournament has been four rounds. The previous record was -27 when American Michael Kim of Houston, Texas had a total stroke score of 257 in winning the 2018 John Deere Classic. Kim was absolutely dominant six years ago as he beat his nearest competitors (2018 British Open champion Francesco Molinari of Turin, Italy, Joel Dahmen of Clarkston, Washington, Sam Ryder of Winter Park, Florida and Bronson Burgoon of The Woodlands, Texas) by eight strokes. The eight strokes are the most number of strokes a golfer has ever won the John Deere Classic.

This past weekend, Davis Thompson beat three players by four strokes each. They were amateur Luke Clanton of Hialeah, Florida, Michael Thorbjornsen of Cleveland, Ohio, and reigning Olympic bronze medalist Cheng-tsung Pan of Miaoli County, Taiwan. Clanton, Thorbjornsen and Pan were tied for second place at -24.

Thompson opened the tournament with a score of eight-under-par 63, second round score of four-under-par 67, a third round score of nine-under-par 62, and a fourth round score of seven-under-par 64.

During the tournament, Thomnpson had one eagle to his round. It came on the second hole in round two, as Thompson posted a score of three on a par five. The eagle putt was a dozen feet.
