Davis Riley wins the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge

In an emotional weekend for those involved in professional golf, Davis Riley of Hattiesburg, Mississippi won the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Sunday. This is Riley’s first individual win on the PGA Tour and second victory overall. He teamed up with Nick Hardy of Northbrook, Illinois to win the 2023 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

At the Charles Schwab Challenge, Riley posted a four-round score of -14. He beat two major champions by five strokes. The major champions were Keegan Bradley of Woodstock, Vermont, and Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Bradley won the 2011 PGA Championship, while Scheffler, the world number one, won the 2022 and 2024 Masters.

Riley opened the tournament with a first round score of four-under-par 66. That was followed by a second round score of six-under-par 64, and a third round score of four-under-par 66. In the fourth and final round, Riley had an even round score of 70.

However, the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge will be best remembered by a tragedy that existed during the tournament. On Saturday, many members of the PGA Tour were extremely emotional when they heard the news that PGA player Grayson Murray of Raleigh, North Carolina had passed away at the age of 30. Murray had competed over the first two rounds of the tournament before withdrawing on the 16th hole on Friday with an illness. We later found on Saturday, that Murray tragically committed suicide. Earlier this calendar year, Murray won the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii. On Monday, Murray was ranked 61st in the Official World Golf Rankings.
