Two household names in men’s singles tennis have tested positive for coronavirus. David Goffin tested positive on Wednesday, and Sam Querrey tested positive on Monday. Both were to participate at the St. Petersburg Open in Russia, while Querrey was already scheduled to go up against Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the first round. Interestingly, Querrey has been replaced in St. Petersburg by Viktor Troicki of Serbia, who has already had and recovered from coronavirus.

Goffin, a Belgian, still hopes to play at the European Open next week in Antwerp. The hard court tournament is a lower tier event as it is part of the ATP 250 series, but is extremely meaningful for Goffin because it is the only ATP event in his home country of Belgium. It will occur at the same time as the Bett1Hulks Championship in Cologne, Germany.

Goffin is a four-time winner on the ATP Tour. He previously won the 2014 Austrian Open, the 2014 Moselle Open in France, the 2017 Shenzhen Open and the 2017 Japan Open. At 29 years of age, Goffin is ranked 14th in the world.

Querrey, an American, is best known for his 2017 Wimbledon performance where he reached the semifinals before losing to Marin Cilic of Croatia in four sets. Currently ranked 49th in the world, Querrey was as high as 11th in 2018. Querrey, who is 33 years of age, has 10 career titles. They came at the 2008 Las Vegas Open, 2009, 2010 and 2012 Los Angeles Open, 2010 Memphis Open, 2010 Serbia Open, 2010 Queen’s Club Championship, 2016 Delray Beach Open, 2017 Mexican Open and 2017 Los Cabos Open.

Both Querrey and Goffin both played at the U.S. Open and French Open last month. Querrey lost in the first round to Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia at the U.S. Open, and Andrey Rublev of Russia in the first round of the French Open. Goffin lost in the first round of Roland Garros to Jannik Sinner of Italy, and the fourth round of the U.S. Open before losing to Shapovalov.
