Cranbourne Review: Uncle Bryn Headed For The Top

AFTER Uncle Bryn had won the Cranbourne Cup in impressive style his co-trainer Natalie Young suggested they would set him for the All-Star Mile and the Doncaster Mile next year.

The big question is whether he’s good enough.

The answer is yes, especially for a handicap such as the Doncaster Mile and you only have to look back at this year’s winner of this race Mr Brightside to know he can.

As Young pointed out when he finished fifth in the Five Diamonds at Rosehill over 1800 metres behind Ellsberg he settled “a pair or two further back” than where they needed to be.

In the finish he only was 2.73 lengths behind Ellsberg who was a weight-for-age winner and an Epsom Handicap winner.

Then back to 1600 metres on Saturday, Uncle Bryn relished the hectic speed and he had little trouble rounding up his rivals and going on to win in course record time.

Back to Mr Brightside. This time last year he won the Seymour Cup before he finished fourth in the Cantala Stakes. That’s similar form to what Uncle Bryn has produced this year.

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young stable also produced another imported galloper with a big future and that was Brayden Star who took out the Shooting Star at his Australian debut.

His win was in a similar style to Uncle Bryn coming from well back. He’s sure to work his way through to open class and beyond.
