Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin has season ending ankle surgery

According to CBS Sports on Friday, Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin of Indianapolis, Indiana will miss the rest of the 2024 National Football League regular season with an ankle injury. The injury happened on November 18 in a 34-10 Houston Texans win over the Cowboys. There was some speculation that Martin might have played on Monday night as the Cowboys faced the Cincinnati Bengals, but Martin decided to have ankle surgery which will prevent him from playing the remainder of the season.
The positive news from a Cowboys perspective is that Martin is expected to rejoin the Cowboys for the 2025 NFL season and that the injury is not career threatening. Martin has four more years left after this season on a six-year deal worth $84 million.
This is the latest significant injury to the Cowboys offense. On November 3, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott of Sulphur, Louisiana tore his hamstring against the Atlanta Falcons, and is also done for the season.
You could make the argument that Martin is one of the most valuable offensive linemen in the entire NFL. He was selected to the Pro Bowl nine times in the last 10 years. Martin was selected for six straight seasons from 2014 to 2019, and three additional seasons again from 2021 to 2023. He was also selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame All 2010’s Team, increasing his chances that one day Murray will be inducted into Canton.
In 162 games, Martin has had three fumble recoveries. The 34 year-old was the Cowboys’s first round pick, 16th overall, in the 2014 NFL Draft. Martin was the third offensive lineman taken, only behind St. Louis Rams tackle Greg Robinson of Thibodaux. Louisiana (second overall) and Falcons tackle Jake Matthews of Missouri City, Texas (sixth overall).
