Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs tears his ACL in practice

The Dallas Cowboys got a significant blow on Thursday not from a game, but from practice. That is when two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs of Gaithersburg, Maryland tore his anterior cruciate ligament, and is subsequently out for the remainder of the 2023 National Football League season according to Garrett Podell of CBS Sports.

In two games this season, Diggs had four combined tackles (four solo tackles), one interception for eight yards, three pass deflections and one forced fumble. The forced fumble came in the 40-0 Cowboys shutout win over the New York Giants in week one. This was the biggest shutout in Cowboys franchise history. The interception then came this past Sunday in a 30-10 Cowboys win over the New York Jets.

Diggs had a breakout season in 2021. That season he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time. Diggs also led the NFL in interceptions (11), yards from interceptions (142), and touchdowns from interceptions (two). His pick sixes came in Cowboys wins. The first was for 59 yards and came in a 41-21 Cowboys win over the Philadelphia Eagles on September 27, 2021. The second was for 42 yards and came in a 35-29 Eagles win over the New England Patriots on October 17, 2021.

Also two years ago, Diggs got off to an historic start to the season. He had seven interceptions after his first six games. That was tied with Rod Woodson of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most interceptions after the first six games of the season in NFL history. Woodson of Fort Wayne, Indiana had seven picks for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1993 NFL season.
