Could Philip Rivers return to the NFL after all?

Earlier in the calendar year following the 2020 National Football League season, there were reports that Philip Rivers had retired as a quarterback with the Indianapolis Colts at age 39. The Colts then subsequently made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles where they acquired quarterback Carson Wentz for a third-round draft pick in the 2021 National Football League Draft and either a first or second-round draft pick in the 2022 National Football League Draft.
Now it appears that Rivers has had a change of heart, and may not yet be ready to officially retire. Maybe it is because he has seen the great success of Tom Brady with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or maybe he feels he has some unfinished business after losing his last NFL game in the 2020 NFL Playoffs by a score of 27-24 to the Buffalo Bills in one of three AFC Wildcard contests?
Whatever the reason Rivers wants to return, it appears the eight-time Pro Bowler and future Hall of Famer is currently taking a wait-and-see approach at the moment. He wants to figure out the teams that are in contention, and those who are not, and may make himself available to a NFL franchise that is in need of a NFL quarterback, whether it is due to injury, or the fact that a team is strong on defense and may need an upgrade at the quarterback position.

Last season with the Indianapolis Colts, Rivers completed 369 passes in 543 attempts for 4169 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. It was his first year in Indy after 16 seasons in the Chargers organization where he had 34 touchdown passes in 2008, and led the NFL in passing yards with 4710 in 2010. Rivers’s impressive passing statistics were even more impressive when you consider the fact that the organization had an outstanding running back in Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson when Rivers was with the Chargers in his first six seasons.
