Coolangatta to miss tomorrow’s meeting at Royal Randwick

With the $5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) three weeks away, preparation is key, however, undefeated favourite Coolangatta (3 wins) is set to miss tomorrow’s meeting at Royal Randwick due to rain.

Having won in the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Coolangatta is primed for yet another major win.

Despite needing to race in the leadup to the Slipper, racing on a track that is rated at a heavy 9 can have many risks so close to the big race.

“To be honest, I’d say that it’s odds against that she’d run,” co-trainer David Eustace said.

“She’d be pretty unlikely, we’re comfortable with that, we know her fitness levels are good, she’s a clean-winded filly, if we don’t run then we are comfortable enough with that.

“An energy sapping heavy run three weeks out is probably not going to win her the Slipper. It might win other horses, but she doesn’t need the fitness run.”

The two-year-old filly is currently the odds on favourite at $4 on Sportsbet for next month’s Golden Slipper at Royal Randwick.
