Coco Gauff delivers second career double bagel win

For only the second time in her career, American Coco Gauff of Atlanta, Georgia won a WTA match via a double bagel. She defeated Sofia Kenin of Pembroke Pines, Florida 6-0, 6-0 in the second round of the 2025 Miami Open on Thursday.

Gauff broke Kenin six times in nine opportunities, and won 31 more points than her opponent. Gauff won 49 points and Kenin won 18 points. Other key statistics were winning percentages on first and second serve. Gauff won 84% of her first serve points compared to 30% for Kenin. Meanwhile, Kenin only won 20% of her second serve points.

You seldom see a second round match in a Tennis Masters Series 1000 level where both players have won a major championship. Kenin won the 2020 Australian Open, and Gauff won the 2023 United States Open. In this particular match in Miami, there was only one major champion who played at a high level.

Gauff has now beaten Kenin three times in five opportunities. Gauff’s previous wins came in the second round of the 2023 ASB Classic where she won 6-4, 6-4, and the first round of the 2025 Australian Open where she won 6-3, 6-3.

Gauff’s first double bagel win came in the second round of the 2024 Madrid Open. There she beat Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 6-0, 6-0. Gauff went on to reach the fourth round last year in Spain before losing to 2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys of the United States, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.

Gauff next plays two-time grand slam semifinalist Maria Sakkari of Greece. Sakkari reached the semifinals of the French Open and United States Open in 2021. Sakkari has beaten Gauff in five of nine meetings. Gauff just beast Sakkari 7-6, 6-2 in the third round of Indian Wells earlier this month.
