Clutch Kicking Woes Continue For The Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears suffered a heartbreaking 17-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers at Soldier Field on Sunday. Once again, it was the kicking game that was the Bears’ Achilles heel.

Trailing 17-16 to the Chargers, Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro missed a 41-yard field goal on the final play of the game as his game-winning attempt was left of the upright. Does this sound familiar?

Well, it does. A blocked field goal off the foot of Bears’ place-kicker Cody Parkey on the final play of the game by the Philadelphia Eagles is the reason why the Bears had their 2018 season end prematurely when they lost 16-15 at home in the NFC Wildcard matchup.

There have been a lot of issues surrounding the Chicago Bears this season. However, when you consider how strong their defense is, it is considered a mighty disappointment for them that they currently have a record of three wins and four losses and are dead last in the NFC North.

The 2019 regular season started off poorly for the Bears as they lost 10-3 in an offensively inept performance against the overachieving Green Bay Packers on opening night. Three wins over the Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings followed and it seemed to many that the Bears had turned their season around. However, a trip to England did not go well for the Bears as they were upset 24-21 to the Oakland Raiders. In this tough Chicago loss, Bears quarterback Chase Daniel threw a late fourth quarter interception.

Then in Chicago’s first game back after their European adventure, they were completely outplayed in the third quarter by the New Orleans Saints in a 36-25 defeat. The Bears simply have themselves to blame for being 3-4. A playoff spot seems to be in the far distance for Chicago this season, as they are well back of the NFC North Division leading Packers (7-1), the Vikings and Seattle Seahawks, which share records of 6-2 and each currently hold down a NFC Wildcard spot.
