Clippers suffer worst playoff loss in franchise history

Things are not going well for the Los Angeles Clippers at the moment, and on Wednesday, they suffered their biggest postseason loss in franchise history. In game five of the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, the Clippers lost 123-93 to the Dallas Mavericks. With the win, the Mavericks lead the best out of seven series three games to two.
Three times before the Clippers lost by 27 points in the playoffs. They lost 100-73 in game three of the first round of the 2015 NBA Playoffs to the San Antonio Spurs, 132-105 in game three of the first round of the 2019 NBA Playoffs to the Golden State Warriors, and 130-103 to the Phoenix Suns in game six of the 2021 Western Conference Finals.
This was the fourth biggest playoff win in Mavericks playoff history. They previously beat the Houston Rockets by 40 points (116-76) in game seven of the first round of the 2005 NBA Playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers by 36 points (122-86) in game four of the Western Conference semifinals of the 2011 NBA Playoffs, and the Phoenix Suns by 33 points (123-90) in game seven of the Western Conference semifinals.
In Dallas’s win over the Clippers on Wednesday, Dallas won every quarter. They outscored the Clippers 25-24 in the first quarter, 31-22 in the second quarter, 33-23 in the third quarter, and 34-24 in the fourth quarter.
Six Mavericks reached double digits in scoring. Point guard Luka Doncic of Ljubljana, Serbia had 35 points, center Maxi Kleber of Wurzburg, Germany had 15 points, shooting guard Jaden Hardy of Detroit, Michigan, and shooting guard Kyrie Iving of Melbourne, Australia had 14 points each, and small forward Derrick Jones Jr. of Chester, Pennsylvania and center Derrick Lively II of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania had 12 points each. Doncic had a double-double as he had 10 assists. Game six is in Dallas on Friday.
