Clippers name Trent Redden new general manager

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN on Monday, the Los Angeles Clippers have named Trent Redden of Sacramento, California as their new general manager.
Redden takes over from Michael Winger of Waukee, Iowa, who left the Clippers role as general manager after Los Angeles was eliminated from the 2023 NBA Playoffs. Winger is now the president of the Washington Wizards, the Washington Mystics of the WNBA and the Capital City Go-Go of the G-League.

Redden had been the Clippers assistant general manager since August of 2017. Prior to that, he worked 12 years in the Cleveland Cavaliers organization. Redden was the Cavaliers basketball operations manager and scout from August of 2007 to June of 2013. He was then promoted to the role of assistant general manager and vice president of basketball operations. During this role, the Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Finals. In the first and only league title for Cleveland in franchise history, the Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors in seven games.
The big assignment for Redden in the offseason will be to make a decision on point guard Russell Westbrook of Long Beach, California. The all-time leader in triple doubles (with 198) was significantly more successful in his NBA career in Oklahoma City, Houston and Washington than his time on the west coast where he played for the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers. Don’t one surprised if Westbrook returns to the Clippers, he will take a significant pay cut. In last year’s offseason, the Lakers exercised his $47.1 million option. Then at the trade deadline, the Lakers did not hesitate when they saw an opportunity to trade Westbrook in a three-way deal involving the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves.
