Chris Kirk wins 2024 Sentry

Chris Kirk of Knoxville, Tennessee has won the 2024 Sentry from the Kapalua Plantation Course in Maui. For Kirk, this was his sixth career win on the PGA Tour. He previously won the 2011 Viking Classic (now Sanderson Farms Championship) in Jackson, Mississippi, the 2013 McGlarey Classic (now RSM Classic) in Saint Simons Island, Georgia, the 2014 Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, Massachusetts, the 2015 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial (now called the Charles Schwab Challenge) in Dallas, Texas, and the 2023 Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he beat fellow American Eric Cole of Palm Springs, California in a playoff.

In Maui over the last four days, Kirk shot a four round score of -29. He beat Sahith Theegala of Orange, California by a stroke. Theegala was at -28. Two more golfers were in contention. Jordan Spieth of Dallas, Texas was at -27, and Byeong-hun An of South Korea was at -26. Of those golfers within three strokes of the lead, Theegala was the only golfer who won on the PGA Tour in 2023. He won the Fortinet Championship this past year in Napa, California. Spieth and An qualified by being in the Top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings.

Kirk had a first round score of  six-under-par 67. That was followed by a second round score of eight-under-par 65, a third round score of seven-under-par 66, eight-under-par 65. Of the 72 holes Kirk played, he had 30 birdies and one bogey. The only hole Kirk shot over par was the third hole in round three. He bounced back with seven birdies in the next 11 holes.
