Chris Gotterup wins 2026 Sony Open

Chris Gotterup of Easton, Maryland had won the 2026 Sony Open in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday. This was his third PGA title as he previously won the 2024 Myrtle Beach Classic and the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open. 

Over the last four days of Honolulu, Gotterup posted a winning score of -16. Ryan Gerard of Raleigh, North Carolina was alone in second place at -14, and Patrick Rodgers of Avon, Indiana was alone in third place at -13.

Gotterup had a first round score of seven-under-par 63, a second round score of one-under-par 69, a third round score of two-under-par 68, and a fourth round score of six-under-par 64.

It is interesting that Gotterup was great in the first round on Thursday, and the fourth round on Sunday. In the first round, Gotterup had the third best score. He was only one shot back of Canadian Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Kevin Roy of Syracuse, New York. Taylor, who was the defending champion, and Roy both had scores of eight-under-par 62. Then in the fourth round, Gotterup had the second best score. Only Scotland’s Robert McIntrye was better at seven-under-par 63.

Gotterup won $1.638 million for winning the Sony Open. When Gotterup won the Myrtle Beach Classic, he won only $720,000. When Gotterup won the Scottish Open, he won $1.575 million.

This was the first PGA Tour event on the 2026 calendar. Normally, the event that begins the PGA Tour season is the Sentry Tournament of Champions. However, this year the event that takes place annually in Maui was cancelled because of a long drought in 2025 that impacted the Hawaii weather climate.
