The Kansas City Chiefs have traded wide receiver Skyy Moore of New Kensington, Pennsylvania to the San Francisco 49ers according to Dylan Svoboda of the New York Post on Wednesday. In addition to Moore, the 49ers will receive a seventh round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft from the Chiefs. Kansas City will receive a sixth round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft from the 49ers.

Moore played the last three seasons with the Chiefs. This past season, he only played six games before a core muscle injury in October ended his 2024 season. Moore was very unproductive in the six games he did play. He only had three targets and did not make a catch.

Initially, Moore was the Chiefs’s second round pick, 54th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan University. However, Moore never really developed much chemistry with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Moore only had 43 catches for 494 receiving yards and one touchdown catch in 36 games. He was averaging just a little more than one catch a game.

Moore had one touchdown catch in the regular season for the Chiefs. It came on September 17, 2023 in a 17-9 Chiefs win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Moore had a nine yard touchdown catch from Mahomes which put the Chiefs up 7-3 at the time.

In the playoffs, Moore won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs in 2023 and 2024. In Super Bowl LVII, Moore did have a four-yard touchdown catch from Mahomes, which put Kansas City up 35-27 on Philadelphia in a 38-35 Chiefs win.

The 49ers wide receiver situation is in an absolute state of flux. Brandon Aiyuk has not recovered from last year’s injury. Jauan Jennings, Jordan Watkins, Jordan James, Russell Gage Jr. and Jacob Cowing are also injured, and Demarcus Robinson has been suspended three games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The 49ers also traded wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders in the offseason, (which looks terrible now from a San Francisco perspective). All of a sudden, Moore is second on San Francisco’s wide receiver depth chart only behind Ricky Pearsall of Chandler, Arizona.
