Chiefs sign Welsh rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit

The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions, and are now thinking outside the box in their latest free agent acquisition. On Friday, they signed rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit of Penarth, Wales to a three-year deal. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Rees-Zammit was a winger on the Welsh International Rugby team. He had 14 tries in 32 caps, and had 190 points in 69 caps for Gloucester in England’s Premiership.
There were a lot of questions about Rees-Zammit’s future when all of a sudden he quit the Rugby Premiership on January 16. He then joined the National Football League International Player Pathway Program. In addition to the Chiefs, Rees-Zammit had interest from the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos.
Rees-Zammit’s most known international event was the 2021 Six Nations Championship. This was the 28th Six Nations Championship in the history of the event won by Wales. Rees-Zammit was third in scoring for Wales with 20 points. He was only behind Dan Biggar, who had 36 points, and Callum Sheedy, who had 24 points. Wales won the tournament with a record of four wins and one loss.
In the sport of rugby, Rees-Zammit played the positions of wing and full back. With the Chiefs, he is projected to play wide receiver and running back. Kansas City struggled significantly in catching the football a year ago despite their regular season success. Due to the fact Isiah Pacheco of Vineland, New Jersey emerged as an elite running back, Rees-Zammit’s primary position in 2024 should be at the wide receiver position.
