Chiefs sign tight end Ricky Seals-Jones from the Browns

The Kansas City Chiefs acquired a tight end on Thursday as they came to terms with Ricky Seals-Jones of Sealy, Texas to a one year contract according to Rotoworld. Financial terms to the contract were not disclosed at this time.

Seals-Jones will be joining his third National Football League franchise. He previously played for the Arizona Cardinals (2017 and 2018) and Cleveland Browns (2019).

Last season for the Browns, Seals-Jones had 14 catches for 229 yards and a career high four touchdowns. On September 29, 2019, Seals-Jones had a career high 82 receiving yards in one game as the Browns stunned the Baltimore Ravens 40-25. Also in the Browns win over the Ravens, Seals-Jones had a nine yard touchdown catch from Baker Mayfield to open the scoring at 12:03 of the first quarter.

Seals-Jones also had two touchdown catches in a single game for the second time in his career this past season. He had three catches for 29 yards and two major scores in a 38-24 Browns loss to the Arizona Cardinals on December 15, 2019. Ironically, it was with the Cardinals that Seals-Jones had his first multi-touchdown game. He actually caught his first two NFL touchdown passes in a 31-21 Cardinals loss to the Houston Texans on November 19, 2017.

A product of Texas A & M, Seals-Jones was originally undrafted and signed his first NFL contract with the Cardinals on May 2, 2017. This past season in Cleveland, Seals-Jones was supposed to be the backup tight end but saw more playing time than expected because original starter David Njoku suffered a concussion and broken wrist on the same play against the New York Jets on September 16, and was out for the majority of the rest of the season.

In Kansas City, Seals-Jones will definitely be a backup in the Chiefs offense. That is because Travis Kelce is one of the best tight ends in the entire NFL. Last year he had 97 catches for 1229 yards and five touchdowns.
