Chiefs get wide receiver Mecole Hardman back

According to Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs are getting wide receiver Mecole Hardman back. The native of Bowman, Georgia, who signed a one-year deal worth $6.5 million with the New York Jets on March 23, was traded from the New York Jets to the Chiefs. In return, the Jets will receive a sixth round pick in the 2025 National Football League Draft. The Chiefs will receive a seventh round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Hardman has been completely absent in the Jets’s offense this season. In five games this season, he only has one catch for six yards. When he came to the Chiefs, he was expected to build chemistry with newly acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers. When Rodgers went down with a serious Achilles injury in week one, the Jets returned to Zach Wilson at quarterback. Wilson has simply used the receiver he is more familiar with (wide receiver Garrett Wilson of Columbus, Ohio, who has 32 catches for 369 receiving yards and two touchdowns). Garrett Wilson has been targeted 55 times, while Hardman was only targeted thrice.
Some players are just best suited for one team. The Chiefs are hoping that is the case with Hardman. In 2022, he had 25 catches for 297 yards and four touchdowns. Hardman’s best game last year came against the Tennessee Titans in week eight, a 20-17 Kansas City win. He had six catches for 79 yards and one touchdown, before experiencing a core injury which forced him to miss the next 10 Chiefs games.
Kansas City are leading the AFC West at five wins and one loss. They have won five straight games since losing their regular season opener, 21-20 to the Detroit Lions.
