Chicago Bulls to retire number one jersey of Derrick Rose

According to footboom1.com on Sunday, the Chicago Bulls are retiring the number one jersey of Derrick Rose of Chicago, Illinois. Rose played seven seasons with the Bulls from 2008 to 2016. He was a three-time All-Star with the Bulls in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Rose was also the NBA Rookie of the Year with the Bulls in 2008-09, and the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2010-11.

In 406 games with the Bulls, Rose averaged 19.7 points per game. He also had 6.2 assists per game, 3.7 rebounds per game, with a field goal percentage of .448, three point percentage of .302, and a field goal percentage of .813.

As a rookie, Rose averaged 16.8 points per game, 6.3 assists per game, and 3.9 rebounds per game. He also had a field goal percentage of .475, three point percentage of .222, and a free throw percentage of .788. In 2010-11 when Rose was the NBA MVP, he averaged 25 points per game, 7.7 assists per game, and 4.1 rebounds per game, with a field goal percentage of .445, three point percentage of .332, and a free throw percentage of .858.

Rose’s retirement ceremony will be coming at some point during the 2025-26 NBA season. He is fifth Bulls player to have his number retired. The other four are Michael Jordan of Brooklyn,  New York (23), Scottie Pippen of Hamburg, Arkansas (33), Jerry Sloan of McLeansboro, Illinois (number four), and Bob Love of Bastrop, Louisiana (10). The Sporting Base declared Jordan the greatest player of all-time in 2019. You could make the argument that Sloan is one of the greatest coaches all-time never to have won the NBA Finals. While with the Utah Jazz and Bulls as a head coach, he won 1221 games, the fourth most wins all-time.
