Charley Hull and Lilia Vu lead after third round of the 2023 Women’s British Open

Round three is now in the books at the 2023 Women’s British Open in Surrey, England. We have a change at the top of the leaderboard. No longer in first place is American Ally Ewing, who faltered on Saturday by shooting a score of three-over par 75. The new leaders are 2023 Chevron Championship winner Lilia Vu of Fountain Valley, California and Charley Hull of Kettering, England.

Vu and Hull are both at -9. Vu had a first round score of even par. That was followed by a second round score of four-under-par 68, and a third round score of five-under-par 67. In round one, Vu had one birdie and one bogey. She birdied the 16th hole and bogeyed the fifth hole. In round two, Vu had five birdies and one bogey. She birdied the sixth, seventh, 10th, 12th and 16th holes and bogeyed the 11th hole. In round three, Vu had seven birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the fifth, sixth, seventh, 10th, 11th, and 16th holes, and bogeyed the third, and 14th holes.

Hull had a first round score of one-under-par. That was followed by back-to-back rounds of four-under-par 68. In the first round, Hull had three birdies, one eagle, two bogeys and one double bogey. She birdied the sixth, 11th, and 12th holes and eagled the 16th hole. Hull also bogeyed the fourth and 14th holes, and double bogeyed the 13th hole. In the second round, Hull had four birdies and zero bogeys. She birdied the seventh, 11th, 15th and 16th holes. In the third round, Hull had six birdies and two bogeys. She birdied the first, eighth, 11th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes. and bogeyed the second and 14th holes.

There are four golfers in contention. Angel Yin of the United States and 2014 Evian Championship winner Hyo-Joo Kim of South Korea are tied for third place at -8. Ewing, the second round leader, is in fifth place at -7, and Linn Grant of Sweden is in sixth place at -6.
