Celtics trade Kristaps Porzingis to Hawks and Jrue Holiday to Trail Blazers

The Boston Celtics have been involved in two transactions the last two days according to Sports Illustrated. On Monday, they traded point guard Jrue Holliday of Chatsworth, California to the Portland Trail Blazers for shooting guard Anfernee Simons of Longwood, California and two second round draft picks. On Tuesday, the Celtics traded center Kristaps Porzingis of Liepaja, Latvia to the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta will also receive a second round pick in the deal. Brooklyn receives shooting guard Terance Mann of Brooklyn, New York from Atlanta and a first round pick in 2025. The Celtics will receive power forward Georges Niang of Lawrence, Massachusetts from the Hawks and a second round pick.
There were three principal players in the deals. Thet were Holliday, Simons, and Porzingis.
Holiday is joining his fifth NBA franchise. He was previously with the Philadelphia 76ers from 2009 to 2013, the New Orleans Pelicans from 2013 to 2020, the Milwaukee Bucks from 2020 to 2023, and the Boston Celtics from 2023 to 2025. Holiday was a NBA All-Star with the 76ers in 2012-13, and with the Bucks in 2022-23. He also won the NBA Finals with the Bucks in 2021 and the Celtics in 2024. This past season in Boston, he averaged 11.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, 3.9 assists per game, and 1.1 steals per game. He had a field goal percentage of .443, three point percentage of .353, and a free throw percentage of .909.
Simons has spent the last seven seasons with the Trail Blazers. In 2024-25, he averaged 19.3 points per game, 4.8 assists per game, and 2.7 rebounds per game. He had a field goal percentage of .426, three point percentage of .363, and a free throw percentage of .902.
The Hawks will be Porzingis’s fifth NBA team. He was with the New York Knicks from 2015 to 2018 (all-star in 2017-18), the Dallas Mavericks from 2019 to 2022, the Washington Wizards from 2022 to 2023, and the Boston Celtics from 2023 to 2025. Porzingis, who won the NBA Finals in 2024 with Holiday, averaged 19.5 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, 2.1 assists per game, and 1.5 blocks per game with the Celtics this season. He had a field goal percentage of .483, three point percentage of .412 and a free throw percentage of .809.
