Celtics force game seven in Eastern Conference Finals

There will be a seventh and deciding game in the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2023 National Basketball Association playoffs. On Saturday night at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, Derrick White made the game-winning basket on an offensive rebound, and in the process gave the Boston Celtics a 104-103 win to tie the best-out-of-seven game series at three games apiece.

White not have had the offensive production as he had in game five where he led Boston in scoring with 24 points, but the basket he had on Saturday night could be considered the biggest shot he has ever made in his career. The Marcus Smart shot moments before did not come close to going in, and the fact that White was able to get the offensive rebound as easily as he did, was just poor defense by Miami. The Heat now could be the first team in NBA history to blow a 3-0 series lead by losing four straight games, if Boston comes out victorious on Monday night at Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston.

White, who finished with 11 points, was one of five Celtics players to reach double digits in points. He was joined by forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri, who had 31 points, small forward Jaylen Brown of Marietta, Georgia, who had 26 points, guard Marcus Smart of Flower Mound, Texas, who had 21 points, and Robert Williams III of Shreveport, Louisiana, who had 10 points.

Williams III had 10 points off the bench. Tatum and Brown each had double-doubles, as Tatum had 12 rebounds, and Brown had 10 boards. The winner of the Celtics and Heat series will play the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals.
