Celtics beat Timberwolves in a clash of NBA titans
2 years ago - Sportingbase
It is not many times on the National Basketball Association schedule, where the top teams in the entire league get to face each other. However, that is what we saw on Wednesday, as the 28-8 Boston Celtics faced the 26-10 Minnesota Timberwolves. The Celtics are first in the Eastern Conference, while the Timberwolves are first in the Western Conference.
At the end of the day, the Celtics continued their perfection at home. They set a franchise record by winning their 18th straight home game to start the season with a 127-120 overtime victory.
Really in all essence it was a two-man show for the Celtics on Wednesday. Power forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri led the Celtics with 45 points, while shooting guard Jaylen Brown of Marietta, Georgia, who in July signed the richest contract in NBA history, had a double-double as he had 35 points and 11 rebounds.
The fact that Tatum and Brown scored 63% of the Celtics’s points goes to show just how valuable the duo has become. Of Tatum’s 45 points, 12 points came in the five minute overtime period. The 12 points tied a Celtics’s franchise record for the most points by a player in overtime. Kyrie Irving of Melbourne, Australia also had 12 points in a 130-125 Celtics win over the Washington Wizards on December 12, 2018.
With the win, Boston has a comfortable lead in the Eastern Conference. They lead the Milwaukee Bucks by four games. The Timberwolves still lead the Western Conference. However, it is only half a game now over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
