Cavaliers deliver impressive comeback against Celtics
12 months ago - Sportingbase
One trend in the National Basketball Association’s regular season this year is the fact that the Boston Celtics have been unable to win games as a double digit favourite. On Friday, the Celtics were unable to protect a 22 point lead.
The Celtics got off to a fantastic start in their game against the Cavaliers at Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. It was so good, they scored 25 of the first 28 points to take what was at the time, a commanding 25-3 lead. That is when the Cavaliers had a remarkable comeback. They outscored the Celtics 120-91 over the last 43 minutes and 12 seconds to win the game 123-116.
Five Cavaliers reached double digits in points. Guard Donovan Mitchell of Elmsford, New York led the way with 41 points. Point guard Darius Garland of Gary, Indiana had 20 points, power forward Evan Mobley of San Diego, California had 17 points, small forward De’Andre Hunter of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania had 12 points off the bench, and center Jarrett Allen of San Diego had 10 points.
What we saw from the Cavaliers on Saturday was a complete team effort and a major reason why they have the best record in the entire NBA at 50 wins and 10 losses for a winning percentage of .833. They had a never give up attitude and exemplified a degree of resiliency that was extraordinary.
Cleveland is not only getting consistent offense from Mitchell and Garland (averaging 24.3 and 21.2 points per game respectively), but strong defense too from Allen and Mobley (averaging 10.2 and 9.3 rebounds per game respectively). While the Oklahoma City Thunder have been the class of the West, the Cavaliers have been the class of the East.
