Caulfield Review: Waller Watches Cup Triumph From Afar Again
3 years ago - Sportingbase
Chris Waller for the second time in three years cheered home one of his gallopers to win a Caulfield Cup this time with Durston and again he wasn’t there.
Waller had to thank a superb ride from another former Kiwi in Michael Dee who saved ground on the stayer and then managed to get him to the outside in the straight.
Durston then flew and got up to defeat Gold Trip in the final stride.

Waller said it’s onwards to the Melbourne Cup for the former English galloper.
He pointed out that he had won over 2800 or 2900 metres in the northern hemisphere and would be suited by 3200 metres.

There were several good Melbourne Cup trials in the race and none better than the 2019 winner Vow And Declare who sat wide throughout and fought on to finish sixth.
New Zealand trainer Andrew Forsman continued his remarkable run since he brought a team of four over for the spring to Melbourne. He won three races with Mr Maestro, Aegon and St Bathans to take his record to seven wins from 14 starters.
