Carlos Alcaraz wins 2025 Monte Carlo Masters

Carlos Alcaraz of El Palmar, Spain won the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday. In the final, Alcaraz, the second seed, defeated Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, the 13th seed, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. For Alcaraz, it was his sixth Tennis Masters 1000 Series title.
Alcaraz won 70% of the points on his first serve. He also broke Musetti six out of eight times. It was pure domination by Alcaraz in the final two sets. After a sluggish start to the match, Alcaraz won 12 of the last 13 games.
Despite not having to face a top-10 seeded player in the entire tournament, Alcaraz actually lost three sets throughout the week. In addition to losing the first set in the final to Mussetti, Alcaraz lost 6-3 in the first set in the second round to Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina, and 6-4 to Arthur Fils of France, the 12th seed, in the quarterfinals. In Alcaraz’s win over Cerundolo, it was a mirror image to his win over Musetti, as Alcaraz won the second set 6-0, and the third set 6-1.
This was Alcaraz’s first win in Monte Carlo. Of his six Tennis Masters 1000 Series titles, three have come on clay. He previously won the Madrid Open in 2022 and 2023. Alcaraz’s previous Tennis Masters 1000 series titles came in Miami (2022), and Indian Wells (2023 and 2024).
Alcaraz has now won 18 ATP titles. He has also won four majors as those came at the 2022 United States Open, 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon, and the 2024 French Open.
Next up for Alcaraz is the 2025 Barcelona Open. He will play Ethan Quinn of the United States in the first round on Tuesday. This will be their first meeting head-to-head. Musetti, meanwhile, has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open due to a thigh injury.
The Barcelona Open is one of two ATP 500 series events this week. The other is the Bavarian International Tennis Championships in Munich, which has been upgraded from a 250 event this year.
