Can Kambosos really beat Haney?

The question that has been on almost every Australian boxing fans’ mind is can George Kambosos Jr actually beat Devin Haney.

The 29-year-old Australian lost all the belts in his first title defence against Haney at Marvel Stadium in June.

After a meteoric rise to the top, downing Teofimo Lopez by split decision at Maddison Square Garden in New York, it was a quick reality check.

Nonetheless Kambosos Jr is not short of confidence and has noted a change of focus as to why he can beat Haney and reclaim the lightweight titles.

“It’s do or die for me now,” Haney said in a press conference at the announcement of the fight.

“You will not see me – if I don’t overcome this fight – back in Australia fighting, you know, domestic guys. That’s not me.

“Everything I have, I’ll be putting into that ring and into my training, and God willing, I will be victorious.”

Kambosos didn’t explicitly say whether a loss would result in retirement but from his very words, it’s a must win fight.

He will face off against Haney once again in Melbourne, but this time at Rod Laver Arena on October 16.

The WBA, IBF, WBO, WBC and the ring titles are available once again and Haney is also ready for the challenge.
