Buffalo Bills sign cornerback Josh Norman

The Buffalo Bills have signed cornerback Josh Norman to a one year contract worth $6 million according to Kevin Patra of nfl.com on Monday. Norman, a native of Greenwood, South Carolina, could make as much as $8 million if he reaches certain criteria.

The Bills become Norman’s third National Football League team. In addition to four seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Norman has played the last four seasons with the Washington Redskins.

In 2019, Norman played 12 games, of which we started eight. He had one interception, one forced fumble, 40 combined tackles, 33 solo tackles, seven assisted tackles, and one tackle for a loss.

Norman could be very familiar with the Bills defense. That is because Bills General Manager Brandon Beane (not to be confused with famous Oakland Athletics executive vice-president and former general manager Billy Beane) was part of the Panthers front office when Carolina drafted Norman in 2012. Also, Bills head coach Sean McDermott was the Panthers’ defensive co-ordinator while Norman was the Panthers cornerback from 2012 to 2015.

In 2015, Norman’s final season with the Panthers, he was a first team all-pro cornerback, and selected to the Pro Bowl. In 16 games, he had four interceptions for 110 yards, two touchdowns, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries for 12 yards, 56 combined tackles, 48 solo tackles, eight assisted tackles and three forced fumbles.

Norman was also one of five National Football League players in 2015 to have two interceptions for a touchdown. He was joined by Karlos Dansby of the Cleveland Browns, Reshad Jones of the Miami Dolphins, Marcus Peters of the Kansas City Chiefs and Aqib Talib of the Denver Broncos.
