Bucks sign shooting guard Gary Trent Jr.

According to Ian Casselberry of Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Bucks have signed shooting guard Gary Trent Jr. of Columbus, Ohio to a contract. The financial terms have not yet been disclosed.
Trent Jr. is joining his third National Basketball Association franchise. He previously played three seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers from 2018 to 2021, and the last four seasons with the Toronto Raptors from 2021 to 2024. Trent Jr. was traded from the Trail Blazers to the Raptors with Rodney Hood of Meridian, Mississippi for shooting guard Norman Powell of San Diego, California at the 2021 NBA trade deadline on March 25, 2021.
This past season, Trent Jr. averaged 13.7 points per game, 2.6 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists per game, and 1.1 steals per game. He had a field goal percentage of .426, three-point percentage of .393, and a free throw percentage of .771.
The Raptors reportedly offered Trent Jr. to a $15 million contract, but Trent Jr. turned it down. At the time he thought he could get something this season in the $25 million range according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN. Now it is believed that Trent Jr. is lucky to be making $3 million with the Bucks.
Trent Jr. is not the only player who will be making a lot less this season than he expected. Another is Caleb Martin, who is making $5 million less this season with the Philadelphia 76ers, after turning down a better offer to stay with the Miami Heat.
In Milwaukee, Trent Jr. is reunited with star point guard Damian Lillard. Trent Jr. and Lillard played together in Portland.
