Browns organization cleared of tanking in 2016 and 2017

The Cleveland Browns of the National Football League have been cleared of any wrongdoing in their accusation that they tanked games during the 2016 and 2017 NFL regular season. According to David Suggs of sportingnews.com. former Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson accused the organization he was paid by owner Jimmy Haslam to lose games.
In three seasons that Jackson was the Cleveland head coach from 2016 to 2018, the Browns had a record of three wins, 36 losses and one tie. In fact during the entire 2017 NFL season, the Browns did not win a single game all year. That was after Cleveland won only one game during the entire 2016 NFL season–a 20-17 win over the San Diego Chargers on New Year’s Eve.

Jackson is in fact the second NFL coach to accuse his former team of getting paid extra to lose in 2022. Brian Flores sued the Miami Dolphins in February that he was offered $100,000 per loss during the 2019 NFL regular season, as the team was hoping for the first overall pick in 2020. Flores was fired by the Dolphins in January, and was since named the defensive assistant and linebackers coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The fact that the Browns and Dolphins are being accused of throwing games simply does not look good for the National Football League. It should also be noted that the NFL cleared Jackson from their own independent review. It would have been interesting to see what the conclusion would have been if the investigators were not hired by the NFL.
In one of the most famous cases in North American sport, eight members of the Chicago White Sox in Major League Baseball were banned for throwing the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. All players were banished from consideration into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
