Browns name Todd Monken head coach

The Cleveland Browns have named Todd Monken of Wheaton, Illinois as their new head coach according to the Associated Press on Wednesday. Monken takes over from Kevin Stefanski of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Stefanski had been the head coach of the Browns the last six seasons since 2020 before he was fired on January 5. Since being fired by the Browns, Stefanski has been named the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
The Browns made a head coaching change after they struggled this past season. Cleveland was last in the AFC North with a record of five wins and 12 losses. There were some signs of improvement at the end of the season. In their final two games of the 2025 NFL season, Cleveland defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 13-6 and the Cincinnati Bengals 20-18.

Scoring points was an issue for Cleveland throughout the season. They only scored 279 points as a unit. That was the second fewest points in the entire National Football League. The only team that scored fewer points were the Las Vegas Raiders as they only scored 241 points in 2025.

With the offensive woes the Browns have had recently, signing an offensive minded coach makes sense. Monken was with the Jacksonville Jaguars as their wide receivers coach for four years from 2007 to 2010, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2016 to 2018, the Browns as their offensive coordinator in 2019, and the Baltimore Ravens as their offensive coordinator from 2023 to 2025.
Monken has also been the head coach at the College Football level. He was with Southern Mississippi from 2013 to 2015.
