Whenever you hear of the Brooklyn Nets, three players come to mind and with good reason. As a trio, James Harden, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant are extremely electrifying when on the hardwood at the same time.

On occasion, the Nets receive production from other sources. On Wednesday, they received 21 points off the bench from Canberra’s Patty Mills, and a career-high 20 points from a rookie power forward out of the University of North Carolina, Day’Ron Sharpe, in a stunning 138-112 Brooklyn win over the Chicago Bulls.

Sharpe of Greenville, North Carolina is only 20 years of age, and was the first round pick, 29th overall, in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. He was then traded in the offseason by the Suns with point guard Jevon Carter of Maywood, Illinois to the Nets for shooting guard Landry Shamet of Kansas City, Missouri on August 6. The deal came around a busy time in the NBA. It did not make basketball headlines because free agency had just got underway.

So far this season, Sharpe has seen minimal minutes on a basketball team filled with expectations. So far in 2021-22, Sharpe has been inactive in 14 games, and did not play in 11 other contests. Over the last two games, Sharpe has scored 34 points after only 50 points in the previous 13 games he was a part of.

At the beginning of the season, it would not have been that big of a surprise that the Nets beat the Bulls by 26. However, the Bulls had won 10 of their last 11 games before losing to Brooklyn, and have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 27 wins and 12 losses.
