Broncos sign running back J.K. Dobbins

The Denver Broncos signed running back J.K. Dobbins of Houston, Texas to a one-year deal worth $5.25 million according to Nick Shook of nfl.com on Tuesday. Dobbins is the second running back to switch teams this week. He follows Nick Chubb of Cedartown, Georgia who signed a one-year c0ntract worth $2.5 million with the Houston Texans on Monday.
Dobbins is joining his third National Football League franchise. He played three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020, 2022 and 2023, and one season with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024.
This past season, Dobbins had 195 rushes for 905 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns for the Chargers. He added 32 catches for another 153 receiving yards.
Twice this past season Dobbins had two two-touchdown games. He first accomplished the feat in a 27-10 Chargers win over the Cleveland Browns on November 3, and then had two touchdowns again in a 34-27 Chargers win over the Cincinnati Bengals on November 17.
It was a strong bounce back season for Dobbins. In his final season with the Ravens in 2023, he tore his Achilles in a 25-9 Ravens win over the Texans, and was done for the remainder of the season. This was the second significant injury Dobbins had while with Baltimore. In a meaningless preseason contest in 2021, Dobbins tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a 37-3 Baltimore win over the Washington Football Team, and did not have a chance to play a single regular season contest.
The free agent signing of Dobbins gives Denver experience at the running back position. At this time the Broncos plan to go with rookie running back RJ Harvey of Orlando, Florida as their starter. Harvey was the Broncos second round pick, 60th overall, out of the University of Central Florida.
