Broncos shape as RCG’s next home after Dragons turn down veteran

The Brisbane Broncos have emerged as a surprise late contender to sign Reagan Campbell-Gillard for 2025 onward after the veteran Eels forward was farewelled by Parramatta earlier today.
It looked like “RCG” would join Shane Flanagan’s rebuilding Dragons but, like Daniel Saifiti recently, apparently demanded too many years on his deal for Flanno’s liking.

Campbell-Gillard had stuck firm on a three year deal, The Sporting Base understands, with the Dragons uninterested in signing him for anything over two. There were even some at the Red V that simply wanted to sign him for 2025 and boil some options into the contract—an offer Campbell-Gillard immediately turned down.
With neither side able to meet in the middle regarding years, the Dragons and the now-free agent Campbell-Gillard shook hands and walked away from the negotiating table. Then, enter Kevin Walters and the Broncos, who are on the hunt for more forwards.
Brisbane, who flagged in their 2024 campaign, are very eager to add leadership to the squad.
RCG has that in spades, having led the Penrith Panthers for some years before joining the Eels heading into 2022. He’s long been considered a leading figure in any forward pack he plays in and would be a strong mentor in training for Payne Haas and the other young props and second rowers littered throughout the developing Broncos lineup.
No matter where he ends up, Campbell-Gillard won’t play on at the Eels. Despite no new club being formally announced yet, the 31-year-old was released from his blue-and-gold deal earlier today and farewelled by the club.
“I’m so thankful for the opportunity to come to a great club which helped me get my football back on track,” said Campbell-Gillard after the release was formalised. “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Parramatta, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and for the lifelong friendships I’ve made. I also want to thank the passionate Eels fanbase, it’s been a pleasure playing in front of them and I’ve appreciated all their support over the years.”

The veteran forward, who represented Australia nine times between 2017 and 2022, ends his Parramatta career with 107 games for the club. He scored 13 tries for the Eels throughout his three year run.
