Broncos plan to bench Russell Wilson

According to Jacob Lev of CNN on Thursday, the Denver Broncos are benching nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson of Cincinnati, Ohio for the last two weeks of the Broncos’s 2023 National Football League season. Broncos head coach Sean Payton has simply not been pleased with Wilson’s ability to protect the football in the month of December. He has thrown four interceptions and had three fumbles in that time.
The benching of Wilson is occurring even though he won five consecutive games as the Broncos starting quarterback from October 22 to November 26. Since then, the Broncos have only won once in four games.
In 2023, Wilson has completed 297 passes in 447 attempts for 3070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also has 80 rushes for 341 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
The Broncos plan to rely on quarterback Jarrett Stidham of Corbin, Kentucky over the next two weeks as Denver plays the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders. Denver still has a chance of making the postseason. They have a record of seven wins and eight losses, and are tied with the Raiders for second place in the AFC West. The Broncos are only one game back of the Indianapolis Colts, who hold down the seventh and final playoff spot in the American Football Conference at eight wins and seven losses.
If you think you have seen a similar script before, you have. A year ago, Stidham replaced Derek Carr while with the Raiders. Stidham then went to the Broncos in the offseason, while Carr signed a massive deal with the New Orleans Saints.
