According to Rogers Sportsnet on Wednesday, Denver Broncos defensive back Kareem Jackson of Macon, Georgia has tested positive for coronavirus. Jackson becomes the second reported Broncos player to test positive for the disease as Broncos linebacker Von Miller of Dallas, Texas announced that he tested positive on April 15. Miller, is one of the top defensive players in the entire National Football League, as he was named the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player in 2016.

Jackson does not know exactly where he got coronavirus. However, according to Matt Becker of The Sporting News, Jackson did attend a racial inequality protest in Denver earlier this month. Unfortunately, during many of the protests, it was extremely difficult for protesters to social distance. That meant that all of those who protested not only in the United States, but worldwide, were at high risk of getting coronavirus and subsequently spreading the disease to others. On June 3, Oklahoma State University linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga of Calgary, Alberta announced that he tested positive for coronavirus, and believes his positive test came from a Black Lives Matter protest in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jackson played his first year with the Broncos in 2019 after nine seasons with the Houston Texans. In 16 games, he had two interceptions for 28 yards, 10 pass deflections, one forced fumble, one touchdown for 70 yards on a lateral from a fumble recovery, 71 combined tackles (48 solo tackles and 23 assisted tackles), and four tackles for a loss.

Jackson’s forced fumble came in a 20-13 Broncos win over the Los Angeles Chargers on October 6. His interceptions came in a 16-0 Broncos win over the Tennessee Titans on October 13 and in a 38-24 win over the Texans on December 8. In the win over the Texans, Jackson also had his 70-yard touchdown on a lateral.
