Brandon Marsh leads Phillies in significant National League victory

There is one elite matchup that started in the month of September on Monday, and it is a battle of National League Division winners. The National League East leading Philadelphia Phillies are hosting the National League Central leading Milwaukee Brewers at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The Phillies entered the game at 79 wins and 58 losses, and comfortably led the second place New York Mets by six games. The Brewers were at 85 wins and 53 losses, after a series win over the Toronto Blue Jays and comfortably lead the second place Chicago Cubs by six and a half games.

Last week we documented the remarkable single game success of Kyle Schwarber of Middletown, Ohio, who hit four home runs in a 19-4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. On Monday. the Phillies star was center fielder Brandon Marsh of Buford, Georgia, who had four hits in a 10-8 Philadelphia win over Milwaukee in one of the strangest three game series on the 2025 Major League Baseball schedule. That is because the Brewers and Phillies do not play Tuesday and will not resume their three game set until Wednesday. The reason for this bizarre schedule is because the Phillies thought they would get a better turnout if they played the holiday Monday, being Labour Day in the United States.

Getting back to Marsh, the bearded wonder for Philadelphia collect four hits, with all of them being singles. This was the second time this season that Marsh had four hits in a game. He also had four hits (two doubles, one single and one home run) in a 9-1 Phillies win over the Texas Rangers on August 8. It has been a bounce back year for Marsh, who saw his batting average drop to .095 after not collecting a single hit in 29 at bats throughout the month of April. He is now hitting a respectable .275.

Three Phillies had extra base hits on Monday. Center fielder Harrison Bader of Bronxville, New York had two doubles, shortstop Trae Turner of Boynton Beach, Florida had a triple, and first baseman Bryce Harper of Las Vegas, Nevada hit his 23rd home run of the season.
