Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Scone & Doomben 18/5

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s Scone and Doomben meetings. Our analyst has found 5 runners that it will pay to follow moving forward. Headlined by a Snowden filly that was beaten only by a bad barrier and a French import from the Waterhouse/Bott yard that will be set for the Cups in the Spring.

Akaysha

The barrier was the only thing that cost the Snowden filly in the Listed Woodland Stakes. She jumped fairly but was forced to settle back towards the rear to find cover. She closed strongly to finish 1.4L 3rd and her final 600m sectional of 33.46 was easily the quickest of the race but was never going to be enough to reel in the all the way winner. I want to be with her next start in similar company with a barrier.

Sir Delius

The French import is a must for all blackbooks after an impressive Aus debut which saw him record a 1.5L victory in the G3 Chairman’s Handicap over 2000m at Doomben. He was placed in a hairy position at the top of the straight but really chased hard the final 200m and looks like a big improver getting out over further distance. He is currently $18 in Betr’s Melbourne Cup market.

Dollar Magic

The BM78 1100m is a race I want to follow from the Scone meeting as it was run at a faster time than 3 other Listed races ran over the same distance. The Singleton mare looks to have returned in great order after being forced to work early to sit outside the leader and they both sprinted quickly to put a gap on the rest of the field at the top of the straight. All the way winner Zealously was too good and looks to have a big future but it should pay to follow Dollar Magic in similar company moving forward over the winter.

Gerringong

The Waterhouse/Bott filly looks to be one to follow heading into the Brisbane carnival after she really jumoed out the the ground the final 100m to finish 0.3L 2nd in the Listed Denise’s Joy at Scone. She should be primed to peak over 1200-1300m 2nd up.

Whinchat

The Pfieffer gelding shouldn’t be far from the winners stall after a gallant 0.1L 2nd in the final race of the Scone carnival. He worked hard to find the lead and was only run down in the final stride in a 1st up run full of merit. The 3rd horse was 3.7L further back.
