Bills bring back Cole Beasley out of retirement

According to Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN on Tuesday, National Football League wide receiver Cole Beasley has come out of retirement. Beasley initially retired at the age of 33 on October 5, after beginning the 2022 regular season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It should be known that at this time Beasley has only joined the Bills’s practice squad.

Beasley played two games this season in Tampa and had four catches for 17 yards. In his 11-year NFL career (seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys from 2012 to 2018, three seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2019 to 2021, and one season in Tampa Bay in 2022), he has 554 catches for 5726 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Beasley’s three most notable seasons came with the Bills. In 2019, he had a career-high six touchdowns. In 2020, Beasley had a career-high 967 receiving yards. In 2020 and 2021, Beasley had a career-high with 82 receptions.

The Bills currently lead the AFC with a record of 10 wins and three losses. The Kansas City Chiefs are also at 10-3, however the Bills have the tie-breaker for the number one seed, because they defeated Kansas City 24-20 on October 16. In this elite matchup, Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs of Gaithersburg, Maryland had a monster game as he had 10 catches for 148 yards and a touchdown.

The fact that Beasley has been able to put together an excellent NFL career is noteworthy when you consider the fact the native of Houston, Texas is only 5’8″, 175 pounds, and went undrafted. He played his college football at Southern Methodist University before signing his first NFL contract with the Dallas Cowboys on May 4, 2012.

Should a NFL player be allowed to retire during the season and then sign with another team before the season ends? In my opinion, this is something the NFL should discuss. Tell us what you think in the comments below.
