Best Of The Best: Our Wednesday Specials – Gosford 22/9

Midweek Sydney racing heads up to Gosford for a 7 race card. We’ve picked out two runners that look well above midweek racing grade and will only be relying on a touch of luck.

Gosford Race 4 – Quantico

• Trainer: J O’Shea
• Jockey: J McDonald
• Barrier: 9

Quantico is the most interesting runner on the card. The lightly raced O’Shea 5yo was a late scratching from a strong race at Randwick on Saturday where he had strong market support so he could be saved for a drier track, which he  should find in a much weaker race here.

Going back through his form you can see that his last defeat on a good surface came on debut at Warwick Farm back in 2019. He’s since strung together 3 wins from 3 starts on good tracks.

His latest trial was outstanding when settling back in the field and worked home in some outstanding sectionals to miss winning by a stride with McDonald in the saddle. J-Mac retains the ride here.

The only concern is that he will be getting back near last on a track that doesn’t fair well for that pattern of racing. If he can get some luck and the standard McDonald special, he is going to be very hard to hold out.

Gosford Race 7 – Enfleurage

• Trainer: J Cummings
• Jockey: H Bowman
• Barrier: 1

Enfleurage is a stakes placed mare that looks to have a few things in her favour here. The 2nd she ran in last year’s G3 Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caufield is more than strong enough for this. The start before that she defeated Big Parade by 1.3L! Most recently she has finished 3rd behind Selburose at Randwick in a much stronger race.

Aside from the form, the other big tick is that  she should get control in front. Thudson is the only other runner that could match her gate speed whilst other fancied runners like On the Lead, Belluci Babe and Ashema will be giving away big starts to the Godolphin mare.
