Spring Champion Stakes Day at Randwick and I’be found a 3yo from the Waller yard that looks to be in a class of his own, a $2 million colt that should improve sharply and a value runner from the Cummings yard down in the weights.

Randwick Race 4 –  Coastwatch

Coastwatch looks to be extremely well placed in a field that could be best described at C graders in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes. He comes to this after an impressive 1.6L 3rd in the G1 Golden Rose behind Into the Congo and Anamoe. Prior to that he was freshened after an impressive victory in the G3 Ming Dynasty.

The market has framed Brigantine as his main rival after finishing runner up in the Caufield Guineas Prelude. It’s important to note that Coastwatch defeated Brigantine by 5L when the Waller 3yo finished 0.1L 2nd to Tiger of Malay in the G3 Up and Coming in August.

Coastwatch should land on the speed in a slowly run race and be strong at the 1500m. The bet of the day.

Tip: 3 Units Win Coastwatch @$1.9  With TopSport

Randwick Race 8 – Profondo

There was a lot to like about Profondo’s 0.3L 2nd to Head of State in the Gloaming which serves as the traditional lead up race to the G1 Spring Champion Stakes here. The impeccably bred Deep Impact colt raced on the speed and was extremely green over the final 200m when Robbie Dolan struck him with the whip.

Winner Head of State was equally impressive but I believe there is a lot more scope for improvement for Profondo if he can knuckle down and run straighter under pressure. It also should be noted that the Gloaming was just his 2nd race start. With further experience and fitness he looks the one to beat here.

Tip: 2 Units Win Profondo @$3.4 With TopSport

Randwick Race 9 – Geist

Happy to take the each way odds about this Godolphin mare in a wide open G2 The Nivison. Two starts back she was fantastic defeating King of Sparta, who lines up in the G2 Roman Consul Stakes earlier in the day. Last start she ran home strongly to finish 4th in a G3 race at Caufield.

You could make a case for half a dozen of the mares in this race but I think Geist’s form is being overlooked and I love the fact she is in with 54kg.

Tip: 1 Unit Each Way Geist @$18/$4.4 With TopSport
