Randwick Race 4 – Capital Reign

I love the chances of this speedy little 3yo from the Portelli yard. In a 1000m race filled with runners that do not possess the gate speed of favoured runners Delexo and Capital Reign seem to have the advantage here.

This compels one to cast back to the last time these horses met over this track and distance in a Midway in October last year. On that occasion Delexo edged out Capital Reign for 2nd, it was clear to see the huge size difference between the two on the film which might suggest that Capital Reign may have benefited from more time to mature physically the past 5 months.

With Tyler Schiller’s claim he will meet her 2.5kg better at the weights. Randwick Race 6 – King of Sparta

King of Sparta is shaping as a 3yo that can take the next step in some big target races this autumn. He comes to this after a dominant win in the 3yo Magic Millions Guineas. He was able to do this despite firing up when not getting cover for the first half of the race. It is imperative that he gets cover and with the soft gate he is sure to get it here.

It should be noted there are a couple of things he will have to overcome here with the first being the fact he will have to step up to open company against some quality sprinters. More significantly, punters should be wary of the fact that he does appear to go better on drier surfaces so if the track doesn’t come up and we get a heavy, then punters might like to look elsewhere in the shape of the in form Overpass or Hunter winner Lost and Running. Four Moves Ahead begins her preparation in the Light Fingers Stakes and trainer John Sargent looks to be going in all guns blazing having given his star filly 2 solid hit outs at the trials, in the latest she worked home strongly to finish just behind G1 Coolmore winner Home Affairs in hot trial. On top of that she has the blinkers on which I think would suggest they will push forward from the wide gate and expect her to be going well enough to win. I have mapped her to get across without too much pressure underneath. All indicators point to a forward showing and I think she is a great each way bet.
