Belmont Tip Sheet, Staking Plan and Horses To Follow – Wednesday 26th August

Good 4 track, rail at 21m with the cutaway in the straight. Cutaway was quicksand last Wednesday, with track predictability as vague as ever this Belmont season. The track is tired and on its last legs, as such, beginning to tread lightly before the return to Ascot in October for the Spring Carnival.

Race 1 – 1:49PM FREE ENTRY TO BELMONT PARK HANDICAP (1200m)

2. Billy Ray – 1. Zadok – 5. Eliminate – 3. Don’t Compare

Billy Ray ($1.45 at time of writing) looks to be one of Bob Peters future superstars and is set to be unveiled in the first on Wednesday. Debuts off the back of 2 super impressive trials, particularly his last effort where bursting through the field from the back between horses under a strangle hold for Noske. Peters has said he believes he is as good a male horse that he has under his possession at the minute and look forward to seeing what he can do. Not a betting proposition at the price sadly but if he lives up to the hype, I feel you will see plenty of him over the Ascot Spring carnival. Gets a lovely cushy run in behind the speed from gate 1.

Race 2 – 2:24PM OLD MATE’S SPORTS BAR AND EATERY MAIDEN (1400m)

2. Don’t Argue Buster – 7. Yelverton – 2. Trade Master – 5. Enchanting Girl

Feel this race sets up really nicely for Don’t Argue Buster ($7.00 at time of writing) from the Harrison yard to break his maiden. Has been really solid at his last 2 starts, and gets out to 1400m here in a race where he has the early speed to be able to roll to the top, with the debutants all drawn to the outside if something was to try take him on tactics wise. This looks to be a really weak maiden, and given the soft run he is likely to get in the run, I’m happy to have something on given he has finally drawn a gate and should enjoy the run of the race, while he also finally gets to a good track which he hasn’t seen in his racing career to date.

Yelverton ($12.00) also looks an improver, when never settling in the lead last start at Northam behind Kerman Rock who looks a stylish galloper. Feel those same tactics won’t be adopted here and he will be happy to take a sit in behind the speed from gate 1. Has maiden form from last prep around Dom To Shoot and Watch Me Dance while finishing 2L adrift of Chiclett when leading 1st up, who looks a very smart horse that took Watch Me Dance and Dom To Shoot to within a length in the G3 WA Sires last prep. Gets Turner on for O’Donnell which is a big tick.
